Vision

Defines the desired or intended future state of a specific organization or enterprise in terms of its fundamental objective and/or strategic direction.

Appropedia's vision is that all of humanity is able to work together developing and realizing rich, sustainable lives.

Mission

Defines the fundamental purpose of an organization or an enterprise, basically describing why it exists.

Appropedia's mission is to build the infrastructure, and help make the connections and populate free content to effect that vision. Appropedia provides the living resource library of individuals and organizations working towards a sustainable, healthier future, so that efforts can be spent evolving instead of duplicating past efforts.

Appropedia briefly captures its vision and mission in this way:

Sharing knowledge to build rich, sustainable lives.

Values

Beliefs that are shared among the stakeholders of an organization. Values drive an organization's culture and priorities.

Appropedia Foundation has not captured a set of shared values yet. This list will be developed "on the fly."

  • Many existing good ideas are not known to those who could benefit from them.
  • Many problem solvers have skills that are applicable to problems that they don't know about.
  • Market economics is a strong force, but does not address all the world's challenges
  • In particular, the world's poor are least served by market-driven solutions

  • Knowledge empowers people - especially when it is practical knowledge for creating abundance, improving health, and sustaining the earth, in the easiest and most affordable ways. Rather than waiting for "help," the reader can make their own choices as they apply their new knowledge.
  • Knowledge is not the property of the "experts." Knowledge is distributed around the world, among the traditional farmer and the PhD, the professional engineer and the hobbyist, the person who runs a technology business and the one who reads and writes in their spare time.
